Spooky season has arrived in Coastal Georgia, and whether you’re handing out candy on your porch, taking little ones trick-or-treating through local neighborhoods, or hosting a fall get-together, safety should always come first.

Our coastal communities, from St. Marys and Kingsland to Woodbine and beyond, love celebrating Halloween with plenty of small-town charm, golf carts decorated with lights, porches glowing with pumpkins, and friendly neighbors waving along the way.

Before the ghosts and goblins hit the streets, here are a few reminders to help keep Halloween safe and fun for everyone:

Halloween Safety Tips

💡 Light the Way

If you’re participating in trick-or-treating, keep your porch light on to let families know your home is open for visitors. Consider adding extra pathway lighting or glow sticks to help guests navigate safely, especially if you live on a dimly lit street or in a neighborhood with uneven sidewalks.

🕯️ Choose Safer Decorations

Battery-powered candles or LED lights are a great alternative to real flames in pumpkins or lanterns. Open flames can be risky in our breezy coastal climate, a small gust could turn festive décor into a fire hazard.

🐾 Keep Pets Calm and Secure

Even the most well-behaved pets can get startled by costumes, loud groups, or doorbell rings. Keep dogs and cats safely indoors during trick-or-treat hours, and consider playing soft music or turning on the TV to help drown out the noise.

🚗 Slow Down and Stay Alert

Neighborhoods will be busy with families walking or cruising by on golf carts. Drive slowly, avoid distractions, and be extra cautious around driveways and intersections. Trick-or-treaters may dart out unexpectedly, especially younger kids excited to get to the next house!

🧙‍♀️ Plan Safe Routes

If you’re heading out with kids, stick to well-lit streets and familiar neighborhoods. Reflective tape, glow sticks, or clip-on lights can make costumes more visible after dark, and they add a fun, festive touch!

🏡 Clear Walkways

Make sure sidewalks, steps, and porches are clear of obstacles, cords, and decorations that could cause trips or falls. With our warm coastal evenings, many folks will be out enjoying the night, help keep everyone’s experience a smooth one.

🕸️ Be Weather-Wise

October evenings in South Georgia can still be humid, and sometimes buggy. Have insect repellent handy, and check the forecast before heading out. If rain’s in the forecast, keep decorations secured and pathways slip-free.

👻 Celebrate Responsibly

If you’re hosting friends or neighbors for a Halloween get-together, make sure guests have a safe way home. Encourage designated drivers, or suggest local ride-share options for anyone enjoying adult beverages.

Halloween in Coastal Georgia is all about community, friendly faces, creative costumes, and a little small-town magic. By keeping safety in mind, we can make sure everyone enjoys a fun (and worry-free) evening.

From all of us here at Coastal Roots Realty, have a safe and spooktacular Halloween! 🧡🎃
