How to Prepare Your Home for Freezing Temperatures

Writer's picture: Coastal Roots RealtyCoastal Roots Realty

As we prepare for the upcoming freeze warning in our area January 19th-January 24th, we wanted to update you on the proactive measures we are taking to ensure the safety and maintenance of our rental properties and steps you should take to keep your property safe. These steps are designed to minimize potential risks and ensure that your property is well-protected during this time.

Allow Faucets to Flow

Allow both hot and cold-water faucets to flow at a steady trickle, especially in kitchen and bathroom sinks with pipes connected to exterior walls, as these are more susceptible to freezing. Ensure all stoppers are open to prevent flooding.

Open Cabinet Doors

Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around your water pipes.

Maintain Home Temperature

Keep your heat above 60 degrees. Insulate any exterior faucets.

Thaw Frozen Pipes

In the event of frozen pipes, turn on your faucet and use a hairdryer to carefully thaw the affected areas.

Water shut-off valve

Ensure you are familiar with the location of your water shut-off valve in case you need  to stop the water supply to your unit.

If you have any additional instructions or concerns regarding the freeze warning, please don’t hesitate to let us know. As always, we are committed to keeping your property in excellent condition and providing clear communication to our tenants, buyers, and sellers.
